Local Pub News :-
The Washington Arms ( below) closed temporarily on July 1st due to change of ownership. It will no longer be a Stonegate Pub. News as to who will be taking over has not yet been revealed, although the same team will be running the pub.


The Ivy House (above) in Sunderland is closing for a makeover from July 5th. No date has yet been set for the reopening.

The next branch meeting will be held at The Lighthouse, Fulwell on Tuesday 21st July at 8pm. CAMRA | Lighthouse, Sunderland
The quarterly get together of Washington branch members will take place, as usual , in The Steps in Washington Village ; on Wednesday 22nd July – meet from 8pm. All members welcome CAMRA | Steps, Washington
Looking further ahead our Beer & Cider festival will be held from November 5th. This attached poster gives more information.

Copies of Issue 75 can still be found in pubs and clubs around the branch. If any members spot any empty holders please get in touch and we will replenish as soon as possible.
ANGLE in time capsule
Castle Eden Brewery in Co Durham marked there 200th anniversary at the old brewery site in Castle Eden Village. I was invited so took some magazines to leave during the afternoon. One of the events was the burial of a time capsule. Some copies of Durham Drinker were made available so a copy each of the magazines were placed in the time capsule. More on this story in the next edition of the Angle, which is due out in September ( but here is a teaser photo ) :-

Harrogate & Ripon Branch are having an August Trail around Harrogate , Knaresborough and Ripon. They placed an advert in the Angle which appeared as an article on page 28 of Issue 75. Angle75260520 This had obviously found its way down to North Yorkshire as I received an email from one of the trail organisers :-

A new travel website covering the North East Mayor’s Authority has been launched which covers public transport in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and Co Durham. Finally, news that the owner of Samuel Smiths Brewery, Humphrey Smith, has died. The brewery is based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire. They have two pubs in our branch, The Adam & Eve in South Shields and The Royal Oak in Jarrow. The former has been closed since 2019, the latter since 2022. What happens next remains to be seen.
