Some pub news.
In the current issue of CAMRA Angle there is a report about Chesters in Sunderland. It closed suddenly late September and reopened near the end of last month. Previously managed by Just Pubs, they no longer feature at the pub. The Angle has been distributed around the branch and copies can be found in most real ale pubs, or online Angle762610. Also at the beer festival !!
Real ale is back on for a trial period in The Barge and Barrel in Sunderland City Centre. Meanwhile in the Washington Arms, there have been several reports that the availability of real ale is spasmodic, off more often than on.
The Bamburgh in South Shields has been closed for a few weeks, for a refurbishment. They are pleased to report they will reopen on Friday 6th November. There are some teaser photos on their Facebook page.
One Greene King pub reopens, another one closes. The New Derby in Roker are now having their refurbishment. They will reopen in time for Xmas – 2nd December.
A couple of other closures you have learnt about in the press. The Grade II listed Wheatsheaf is boarded up . Also the Mountain Daisy in Millfield closed suddenly on at the end of October. The latter is a Three star – A pub interior of outstanding national historic importance and is listed as II*.
Other closed pub news.:- The Railway Tavern, just along from the Mountain Daisy, has been closed for some time. The premises have been sold and it as been reported this will become a restaurant, albeit a small On. Finally, The White Horse in South Shields, has been closed for a number of years and up for sale. A planning application has been submitted to the local authority for a change of use.
