{"id":386,"date":"2016-02-21T15:11:08","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T15:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sst.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=386"},"modified":"2016-02-21T16:30:09","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T16:30:09","slug":"champion-winter-beer-of-britain-2016-congratulations-to-darwin-brewery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sst.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=386","title":{"rendered":"Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2016: Congratulations to Darwin Brewery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week at the <strong>National Winter Beer Festival<\/strong> in Derby the judging of the <strong>Champion Winter Beer of Britain<\/strong> took place.<\/p>\n<p><em>Winter beers are those beers classified by CAMRA as &#8220;Porters&#8221;, &#8220;Stouts&#8221;, &#8220;Barley Wine Strong Old Ales&#8221; &amp; &#8220;Old Ale Strong Milds&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The full results are available on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.camra.org.uk\/home\/-\/asset_publisher\/UzG2SEmQMtPf\/content\/marble-s-chocolate-marble-crowned-champion-winter-beer-of-britain-at-the-great-british-beer-festival?_101_INSTANCE_UzG2SEmQMtPf_redirect=%2F\" target=\"_blank\">CAMRA National website<\/a>\u00a0&amp; Sunderland &amp; South Tyneside CAMRA\u00a0are delighted to report <strong>Darwin Brewery, of Sunderland,<\/strong> were one of the eight finalists (see below) in the overall &#8220;Champion Winter Beer of Britain&#8221; competition.<\/p>\n<p>Darwin had reached the final &#8220;Overall Champion&#8221; competition as a winner of a Gold medal in the &#8220;<strong>Barley Wine Strong Old Ales<\/strong>&#8221; category with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darwinbrewery.com\/category-s\/113.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Extinction Ale 8.3% ABV<\/a>. Our congratulations for this achievement. Yesterday at the North East regional meeting NE Regional Director Dave Brazier was handed Darwin&#8217;s Gold certificate by a CAMRA HQ representative. So watch this space for details of the future presentation to Darwin.<\/p>\n<p>We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all CAMRA members who took part &amp; voted online in the annual <strong>Champion Beer of Britain nomination process<\/strong>. It is these nominations by grass roots CAMRA members that put local beers into these competitions.
