As part of the 50th<\/sup> year celebrations, CAMRA set out at the beginning of 2021 to recognise 50 people, groups of people or businesses that made a significant contribution the aims of CAMRA.\u00a0\u00a0 Branch members were invited to make nominations in three categories: Pubs, Pints and People..<\/p>\n

The first stage of these awards was to recognise 32 pubs across the UK. The winners in the remaining categories ( Pints and People) will be announced later this year.<\/p>\n

The Steamboat in South Shields was the only pub in the North East to make the list. This adds to the many awards the pub has already received, namely being Sunderland & South Tyneside Pub Of The Year eight times. This is a branch record.<\/p>\n

Pub licensee Kath Brain said \u201cI\u2019m absolutely over the moon that we\u2019ve been awarded the gold award, it\u2019s lovely to be recognised for all the hard work. We couldn\u2019t have done it without our fantastic staff and customers. Thank you all for voting for us\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

. Kath has been licensee since July last year, and has worked at the pub for 21 years, many as Bar Manager. Her predecessor Joe Mooney, ran the pub for 30 years.<\/p>\n

The certificate was presented to Kath by Branch Chair; Michael Wynne.<\/p>\n
